In early 2016 I was asked to move Sierra Mountain Center’s old Dreamweaver HTML/Java site to Wordpress. A painstaking page-by-page content extraction of the company owner’s prolific writing on various High Sierra and climbing tours ensued (I did use Regex and CSV imports to speed it up a bit). There was quite a bit of copy-editing involved as well, but least the reading was interesting!
I built the site on WooCommerce in case the client decided to move forward using tour bookings, relying heavily on Advanced Custom Fields to collect and display tour information consistently. Using ACF also allows the client to input and update tour details himself ad lib without concern about breaking the frontend. This site also relies on Gravity Forms to collect prospective client registration information and payment.
SMC’s owner, as a client, is unique because he has some understanding of HTML (he had been updating the site via FTP himself), and he showed interest in updating all the site photographs once the migration was complete. His effort provided a lovely finishing touch, for a website which otherwise emphasizes function over looks.
